Parbati Stage - II Power (800MW)

The Parbati Stage –II Hydroelectric Project (800 MW) is situated in Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh about 260 km from Chandigarh. The nearest rail head is at Kiratpur which is 192 km away. The Project consists of a 85 m high concrete gravity dam across river Parbati just downstream of confluence of Parbati river and Tosh Nallah, 31.52 km long 6 m diameter Head Race Runnel, 2 pressure shafts of dia 3.5 m and length 2150 m and 2133 m including 1546 m inclined portion in each shaft and surface Power House containing 4 Pelton Turbines Generating units of  200 MW each.

The flow of river Parbati has further been augmented by utilising the water of Jigrai Nallah, Hurla Nallah and Jiwa Nallah by constructing trench weirs, desilting works, interconnecting feeder tunnels and drop shafts. This water is adequate even for running the Power House at its full installed capacity for four hours during the lean periods. The Project will generate 3108.66 Million Units in 90% dependable year and the power generated shall be fed in to Northern Grid. The Project is proposed to be operated as a peaking station.

The project has been approved by the Government for an estimated cost of Rs. 3919.59 crores at December 2001 price level. The Project is under active construction stage and is scheduled to be commissioned in 7 years i.e by September, 2009. Click here to know more.....
